New Delhi, Jan 18: Senior Congress leader and former Punjab finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal joined BJP on Wednesday, hours after quitting the grand old party.

The decision was quite shocking as Badal had been a key member of the Congress party for several years.

The decision was made official at the BJP headquarters in the presence of several high-ranking leaders, including Union Minister Piyush Goyal.

“In politics, I have got few opportunities when I have met a ‘Sher’, a few days back I met a ‘Sher’ and that’s India’s Home minister Amit Shah. He said a heart-touching thing about Punjab that it has suffered 400 attacks for India,” said Manpreet S Badal after joining BJP.

How can you operate with party that's at war with itself? There are coteries. One is made LoP,another is made leader of Legislative party &these coteries fight among themselves…Such situation is there in every state, that's Congress' condition:Manpreet S Badal after joining BJP pic.twitter.com/QmEGwXlOA0

Notably, Manpreet Badal left Congress on Wednesday and accused the leadership of inciting factionalism, He said in a letter to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi that a group of guys in Delhi are in charge of affairs in Punjab and have only fueled factionalism. He has left the Congress party’s primary membership and will now join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“Suffice it to say, that the manner in which the Congress party has conducted its affairs and taken decisions, specifically with regards to Punjab, has been disheartening, to say the least. The coterie of men entrusted with the authority to dictate Delhi’s writ to the Punjab unit of the Congress is far from sound,” he wrote in the letter.
