Daltonganj, Jan 29: Around 10 students of the government-upgraded middle school Jagaldagga were admitted to the Sadar hospital Latehar late Saturday night after they had bouts of vomiting and were suspected of suffering from food poisoning.
When enquired about on Sunday morning, the students’ condition was said to be stable, said the doctor on duty Shrawan Kumar Mahto. Notably, the children fell ill after consuming the prasad after immersion in the idols of goddess Saraswati on Saturday.
Speaking to the lagatar24.com correspondent later on Sunday Dr Sunil Bhagat, the doctor on duty last night said, “The 10 children had bouts of vomiting and loose motion. They were referred to the Sadar hospital Latehar by the community health centre Chandwa last night around 8:40 pm.”
Among the 10 children, two were girls. Meanwhile, all the 10 children were in the age group of three and a half years to 8 years, said Ved Prakash, senior health official of Latehar Sadar hospital.
All 10 were admitted to the Sadar hospital and were under constant medical care, treatment and supervision, Prakash added.
Prakash said the ANMs and GNMs are on strike statewide, “Nevertheless we at the Sadar hospital took immediate and utmost care of these students.”
Health official Prakash said that the parents of the children were informed of the children having prasad. Dr Mahto said that officials suspect that the prasad caused food poisoning among the students.
Sources said the DC Latehar Bhor Singh Yadav was also monitoring the children’s health condition on Saturday.
Later, Dr Mahto said, “Following treatment, we kept these children on NPO which means ‘nothing by mouth’. They were given medication through drips with medication.
Dr Mahto said that all students were found fit and discharged from the hospital.
