Ahmedabad, March 12: At the end of Day 4 of the current fourth and final Test, Australia was 3-0. Matthew Kuhnemann and Travis Head will continue with scores of 3 and 0, respectively. Virat Kohli hit 186 earlier as India amassed 571 runs and defeated Australia by 91 runs after the first inning. India continued its match at 289 for 3 and was helped by Virat Kohli’s marathon effort and Axar Patel’s 79.
In the last session of Day 4 of the Test, which has been moving slowly so far, Kohli produced a chanceless performance, hitting 186 as India totalled 571, securing a 91-run advantage.
Australia, who put nightwatchman Matthew Kuhnemann and Travis Head to start the innings, managed to withstand a few tense moments as they went to Stumps at 3 for 0, still trailing by 88 runs, as play came to an end.
As Ravindra Jadeja and R. Ashwin combined to bowl 5 overs in the final 30 minutes of Day 4, the ground at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which had been placid up until that point, began to play tricks. In actuality, Kuhnemann was dismissed by KS Bharat in the day’s last over when Ashwin’s carrom ball did not provide the anticipated outcome.
Since the first three Test matches were played on a pitch that turned, India’s batting was lacking in confidence. However, India were under strain when Australia responded to Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green’s hundreds. India’s batting lineup, particularly the top-order, stepped up significantly, much to the joy of the home crowd, with massive hundreds from youthful Shubman Gill and veteran Virat Kohli.
In order to make the Australian bowlers work hard for their wickets over the course of two days in Ahmedabad’s heat, players like Cheteshwar Pujara (42), KS Bharat (44), and Axar Patel (79) each made significant contributions. Shreyas Iyer, a middle-order batsman for India, was not available to bat on Day 4 because he was sent for scans after a back injury concern.
