New Delhi, March 24: DK Shivakumar, the state president of the Congress, as well as other party officials and supporters were held by Karnataka police as they were protesting the Surat Court’s ruling against Rahul Gandhi.

“Their (BJP) party will collapse in Karnataka. It is on the verge of collapse. They are just trying to blackmail all leaders & contractors. We’re with people and people are with us. Their voice is our voice. We want to see Karnataka regain its glory,” Shivakumar said.

Congress leaders protested earlier today in opposition to Rahul Gandhi being found guilty of criminal defamation by the Surat District court. The Wayanad MP was given a two-year prison term, but the court eventually approved bail for him and postponed the punishment for 30 days while he filed an appeal.

A large-scale agitation, involving a demonstration at Vijay Chowk in the nation’s capital, was planned by the Congress party. The party stated that it also intends to meet with President Droupadi Murmu to discuss the matter with other parties.

Throughout the present second leg of the Budget Session, Congress is also anticipated to bring up the matter in Parliament.

“They (BJP) are doing this to sidestep the main issue. Congress has always stood by OBC, SC, ST, Backward class and minorities and fought for them,” said Kharge.
