New Delhi, April 3: A Delhi court on Monday extended former Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia’s judicial custody in the Delhi liquor scam till April 17.

Sisodia was brought before the court by the CBI, who asked for an extension of his judicial custody, claiming that the investigation into the case was at a critical point. The judge agreed with the agency’s request and ordered the AAP powerhouse held in custody until April 17.

A special CBI court dismissed Sisodia’s bail request last week, stating that he was ‘prima facie the architect’ of the criminal conspiracy involving the alleged payment of advance kickbacks totaling approximately Rs 90–100 crore, intended for him and his colleagues in the Delhi government, and that he played the ‘most important and vital role.’

Sisodia’s release would ‘adversely influence the current inquiry,’according to Special CBI Judge M K Nagpal. AAP would petition the Delhi High Court, according to senior leader and Rajya Sabha Member Sanjay Singh, after Sisodia’s request for bail in the excise policy fraud case was refused.

Notably, on February 26, the CBI detained Sisodia in relation to allegations of corruption in the creation and execution of the now-cancelled Delhi Excise Policy 2021–2022. In connection with the CBI investigation, Sisodia was detained on March 9 in Tihar prison by the Enforcement Directorate.
