Noted athlete Anju Bobby George to inaugurate Tata Steel’s summer camp on May 12

Jamshedpur, May 10: Noted athlete, Anju Bobby George would be the chief guest during the opening ceremony of  Tata Steel’s Summer Camp at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here on May 12.

This was confirmed by the authorities of Tata Steel’s sports department, the organiser of the fortnight-long summer camp.

Anju Bobby George is the recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2002, Khel Ratna in 2003 and Padma Shri in 2004 for her outstanding achievements in the field of athletics.

She made history by winning a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris.

She became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics jumping 6.70 metres (22.0 ft).

So far, Tata Steel Sports Department has received 2000 entries for the camp. This is the last opportunity for the children to register for the camp as seats are filling fast.

Registrations are open at JRD Tata Sports Complex along with online registration.

The event is aimed to create awareness about fitness, wellness and healthy lifestyle amongst the young generation of the city and encourage them to take up sports activities.

Children in the age group of 6 to 19 years can participate in sporting activities across various disciplines such as Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Golf, Handball, Horse Riding, Karate, Kabaddi, Roller Skate/Roll Ball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Football, Zumba, Yoga, Hockey (at Naval Tata Hockey Academy) and Volleyball.

Yoga and Zumba are open to all age groups including children. For registration in Hockey, an age group of 11 to 17 years is required, said officials at the sports department.
