New Delhi, May 10: The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a case brought by the makers of the controversial multilingual film “The Kerala Story” against the West Bengal government’s decision to forbid its screening. The case will be heard on May 12.

The petition was brought up for an urgent listing by senior advocate Harish Salve before a bench that included Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha.

Salve stated that the petition contests both the “de facto” prohibition in Tamil Nadu and the ban imposed by the government of West Bengal.

The bench announced that it had on Tuesday scheduled for May 15 a hearing on a separate appeal against the Kerala High Court’s decision to deny a stay of the film’s release and that the new appeal will also be considered on that date.

The bench, however, decided to set the plea hearing for May 12 when Salve stated, “We are losing money everyday.” On May 5, the motion picture “The Kerala Story,” starring Adah Sharma was released in theatres.
