Imphal, May 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday met with a delegation of various civil society organisations in Imphal during his visit to the violence-hit Manipur state.

N Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, was also present during the meeting.

Shah landed in Manipur on Monday for a four-day visit to the state, which has experienced ethnic conflict.

Amit Shah called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

Shah also presided over a meeting with the Chief Minister N Biren Singh, state ministers, senior officials, and others to assess the situation and determine what needs to be done next to get things back to normal in the area.

Other attendees at the high-level conference included Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, and Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla.

The Home Minister will undertake numerous rounds of security meetings while he is in Manipur until June 1.

On Sunday, a BJP MLA’s home was vandalised, five people—including a Manipur police officer—were killed, and a crowd is said to have stolen over 1,000 weapons and rounds of ammunition from the armouries of the Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion.

Over the past 48 hours, a joint force of central and state security personnel eliminated over 30 suspected Kuki terrorists in the State.
