Chatra, June 16: The Lawalong police are probing the case related to the brutal murder of a 17-year-old girl who was studying in Std-11th at Kasturba Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya.  A resident of Potam village in Hedum panchayat, the killers dumped her body in a pit. Police officials said they are waiting for the postmortem report to know how she died and whether she was raped or not.

Family members said the girl came to the village after the school’s summer vacation started. Relatives said that on Wednesday morning at around 8 am, she went out of the house with a bag to pick Dorhi (Mahua fruit). But when she did not return home, they started searching for her in the village. Later, her brother and mother went to the forest area. They searched for her near each and every mahua tree but could not find her. Her brother said he started searching for her under the Mahua trees. During this, at about 6 in the evening, at one place in the forest itself, her undergarments were found and a bag was seen at some distance from it. After this, he started searching here and there in the forest.

A few meters away, they found her other salwar. This left her mother and brother shocked who continued their search in the surrounding areas. Both crying and calling her loudly spotted her torn dupatta, four broken stones and a huge amount of blood there.

Following the blood stains, they reached near a pit seeing a youth wearing a T-shirt and a trouser who escaped immediately from there. According to the relatives, the voices of three-four youths were heard from the forest. After this, when the brother of the girl along with his mother went towards the pit, they saw the dry leaves deposited there. When the duo removed the leaves, they found her body there.

They informed the villagers about the matter. After getting the information late at night, DSP Ashok Priyadarshi,  station in-charge Bambam Kumar and SI Rohit Kumar reached the spot and took the dead body in possession and sent it for postmortem.

Priyadarshi said seeing the seriousness of this case, the superintendent of police (SP) Rakesh Ranjan has constituted a special investigation team (SIT) led by him to crack this case. He said they are waiting for the postmortem report. Those behind this heinous crime will not be spared, he said.

Though police officials failed to confirm about the progress in this case, sources said a youth of the village is missing since Wednesday morning. He kept his mobile at home and took his aunt’s mobile with him. The last location of the number of his aunt is found close to the spot. So the police are trying to investigate whether the missing youth has any hand in the incident or not.

Her body was sent for postmortem to Sheikh Bhikari Medical College and Hospital in Hazaribag for postmortem. As Chatra Sadar Hospital lacked a female doctor, the body was sent to Hazaribag.
