Every year on July 1, the nation observes National Doctors’ Day. The purpose of the holiday is to honour and give thanks to medical professionals and other healthcare professionals for their selfless service to society.

By honouring one of their most notable representatives, this day teaches us the worth of doctors in our lives and encourages us to show them our respect.

The day honours Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a distinguished physician, academician, freedom fighter and politician and this day is observed annually. The first Chief Minister of West Bengal following India’s independence was Dr. Roy. In 1961, he received the Bharat Ratna award.
