Ranchi, July 25: A co-accused of Rs 1000 Crore Illegal stone mining in Sahibganj district, Bacchu Yadav, had purchased a palatial building worth over Rs one crore in Asansol district of West Bengal.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigating the illegal stone mining has detected one of the many properties which Bacchu Yadav had raised by investing slush funds of the illegal mining.
Asansol district remained a favourite destination of Bacchu Yadav for the purpose of holidays, relaxation and enjoyment.
The agency is set to attach his properties as well as that of Pankaj Mishra, who is the main accused of the illegal mining scam. Both Bacchu Yadav and Pankaj Mishra are lodged at the Birsa Munda central jail in Ranchi, and the agency also filed a prosecution complaint against them.
Pankaj Mishra is the MLA representative of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and he is also a senior JMM leader. Bacchu Yadav who has a number of criminal cases against him was the henchman of Pankaj Mishra and Dahu Yadav. Dahu Yadav, another accused of the scam, is absconding whereas the agency arrested his father, Pashupati Yadav.
Well-placed sources said that Bacchu Yadav raised this property during the period when illegal mining was rampant. Bacchu Yadav is said to have raised assets in the name of close relatives and associates. Since January 2020 onward, illegal mining phenomenally has grown in Sahibganj.
During the course of the investigation, the ED detected an unaccounted deposit of Rs 30 lakh in his bank accounts and provisionally attached the said amount as proceeds of crime.
Bacchu Yadav claimed that he ran a dairy and the said money he earned by selling milk and dung cake. He also tried to convince the ED that he borrowed money. But the ED investigation exposed his claim.
The agency is also inquiring about the joint properties of his family as Bacchu Yadav had claimed that he has a joint family.
