Nine smugglers arrested with 5 kg opium, 5.80 lakh cash in Hazaribag

Hazaribag, Aug 13: Acting on a tip-off received by SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe, a police team led by DSP headquarters Rajeev Kumar arrested nine smugglers with 5 kg opium and Rs 5.80 lakh cash from them. A car, two bikes and four smartphones were also recovered.

Sources said on the instruction of Chauthe, a team led by Kumar comprising of officer-in-charge of Katkamsandi police station, Prashant Kumar Mishra started a vehicle check near Katkamsandi High School on Hazaribag-Chatra road. Soon the police spotted two bikes coming with a car behind them. As the police team signalled them to stop, they tried to escape by taking a U-turn. But the alert police team foiled their plan and nabbed them.

Kumar said a total of nine arrests were made with 5 kg opium and Rs 5.80 cash recovered. “We have also seized the car and two bikes besides four smartphones from them,” he added. All were then sent to jail.
