New Delhi, Aug 23: In connection with the Antilia bomb scare case, the Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Mumbai Police officer Pradeep Sharma.

Pradeep Sharma, who had previously been detained in connection with the Antilia bomb scare case and the slaying of businessman Mansukh Hiran, was granted bail by a court panel presided over by Justice AS Bopanna.

On June 5, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Pradeep Sharma for three weeks on the grounds that his wife needed surgery because of her poor health.

Pradeep Sharma stated in his plea that his wife’s health was rapidly deteriorating and that she urgently needed surgery.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took Pradeep Sharma into custody, a former senior police inspector, in relation to the incident involving an SUV containing explosives that was left outside Antilia, the luxurious residence of billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani in South Mumbai. Additionally, the arrest is linked to the subsequent murder of Mansukh Hiran, a car accessories shop owner from Thane.

Pradeep Sharma was detained in June 2021 as a result of other suspects’ statements that mentioned him and technical data that suggested he might have had a part in the murder and terror case.

Sharma claimed not to have committed any wrongdoing and claimed to be a “victim of police rivalry” in prior court testimony. Sharma also entered a plea of innocence in the case. However, the Bombay High Court denied each of his numerous bail requests.

Pradeep Sharma, a specialist in encounters, is rumoured to have a close relationship with Sachin Vaze, a former Mumbai Police officer who has been detained by the central agency as the primary conspirator in the Mansukh Hiren murder and the Antilia bomb scare cases.

In 1983, Pradeep Sharma joined the Mumbai Police as a sub-inspector and went on to participate in over 300 encounters connected to the Mumbai’s criminal underworld. Among his accomplishments, he is credited with 113 shootouts.
