Thane, Sep 3: Two people died after a two-storey building collapsed on Saturday night in Bhiwandi City’s Gauripada neighbourhood, officials stated, who also noted that the building is thought to be 45 years old.

Additionally, according to officials, the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade and other rescue teams worked together to free up six residents who lived in the building and were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed area.

Four of the six persons who were saved were sent to a hospital, while the other two—Uzma, 40 and a baby girl who was 8 months old—were pronounced dead there, officials said.

The officials added that the structure, which had been standing for more than 40 years, was in a poor state and that the local municipal corporation even issued a letter to the residents asking them to vacate the premises.

The notice, nevertheless, was ignored.

The two-storey building’s rear part totally collapsed, trapping numerous people underneath the rubble while the front portion of the building is still standing.

Firefighters from the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade arrived at the scene with three engines as soon as they heard about the incident and started a rescue effort.

Al-Moin Hospital is treating the four injured citizens, officials said.

Target Disaster Response Force (TDRF) team officer Sachin Dubey stated, “We reached the spot around 1:30 am and managed to rescue six occupants from under the debris. The injured were shifted to a hospital.”
