New Delhi, Sept 10: G20 leaders on Sunday paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial in Rajghat, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the leaders at a rain-soaked Rajghat.
With an ‘angvastram,’ or stole, with a picture of Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat, which served as his residence from 1917 to 1930 and one of the key hubs of India’s freedom struggle, Modi welcomed the dignitaries.
The Prime Minister was seen outlining the importance of the ashram to the leaders.
By placing wreaths at Gandhi’s samadhi, the G20 leaders paid tributes to him.
Modi and Sunak were two of the politicians who were spotted walking barefoot, while other leaders were observed wearing the white shoes that Rajghat visitors were given to wear.
