BBMKU inter-college badminton: Gurunanak College, BDA College emerge champions

Dhanbad, Sept 13: Gurunank College Dhanbad and BDA College Bermo won the Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) inter-college badminton championship.

In the final held at  DVC Shram Kalyan Kendra under BSK College Maithon, Gurunanak College defeated  PK Roy Memorial  College Dhanbad while the BDA College Bermo girls team also beat  PK Roy Memorial College squad.

State-level player Subhojeet Dutta led his college (Gurunanak College) team and ensured a facile victory over rival team PK Roy Memorial College. Ansh Chauhan and Kashi Nath were other players in the team.

Due to the protest by a team over fielding outside players in the college squad, the final match was held up for more than half an hour. However, senior authorities of the university who were present in the final ceremony intervened in the matter and resolved the dispute.

The girls’ team championship final was also a one-sided affair and BDA College Bermo registered an easy victory over the oldest constituent college PK Roy Memorial College.

On the basis of the performance of boys’ and girls’ students in the championship, BBMKU Dhanbad teams would be selected for the Inter-university badminton championship.

In the final ceremony, BBMKU registrar  Dr Kaushal Kumar was the chief guest and gave away trophies to the winners and runners-up teams of both events. The registrar highly praised the performance of players and called upon all colleges of the university to participate in inter-college so that budding talented players come up.

He also expressed hope that the BBMKU team would do better performance in the inter-university championship.

Host BSK College Maithon principal Dr DP Singh, Dr MK Singh, Dr GP Gupta and other senior faculty members of the institution were also present on the occasion.
