Jalandhar, Oct 9: Five people were killed in a horrific fire incident in Avtar Nagar, Gali No. 12, Jalandhar, all of whom were family members of the Ghai family.

It is thought that a gas cylinder leak within the residence is what led to the catastrophe, which happened on Sunday night.

At approximately 9:30 in the night, the household members, following their dinner, headed to the rooftop and observed smoke emanating from their residence.

Additional details of the catastrophe were revealed by the investigating officer, Hardev Singh, who said that a refrigerator explosion was to blame for the fire’s cause.

Singh said, “The blast has happened in the fridge. As a result, gases were produced and caught fire. The gases were inhaled by the people. Five people have died.”

Gases were released as a result of the blast, and when they ignited, they started the fire. Tragically, the five family members’ inhalation of toxic gases resulted in their deaths.

Bystanders who were quick to act immediately notified the local fire brigade and police. Despite the quick response, the fire had already taken the lives of five people.

The deceased have been identified as Yashpal Singh, his daughter-in-law Ruchi, granddaughter Diya, Mansha, and grandson Akshay.

An Avtar Nagar resident said that the incident happened as a result of a gas leak from a cylinder kept in the family home’s kitchen.

He described how the occupants had no prior knowledge of the fire until they detected the smoke originating from their house. It was at that moment that they informed the authorities about the urgent situation.
