Ranchi: Usha Martin MD Rajeev Jhawar, accused of money laundering, has not received relief from the Ranchi PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) special court. After hearing the arguments of Rajeev Jhawar and the ED, the court rejected his anticipatory bail plea and refused to grant him the facility of anticipatory bail.

Rajeev Jhawar had filed an anticipatory bail application in the court of Special Judge PK Sharma, pleading for anticipatory bail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a charge sheet against Usha Martin in the ED court in the iron ore case involving Rs 190 crore.

Initially, the CBI had registered a case against Usha Martin Group and its officials for irregularities in the iron ore mine. Taking over the case, the ED had filed an ECIR (equivalent to an FIR) on October 2, 2021. This case is related to the illegal mining of iron ore on lease in Ghatkuri Mines in West Singhbhum. Usha Martin’s GM Pramod Kumar Fatepuria and others are accused in the same case.

Earlier, Rajeev Jhawar had filed a petition in the Jharkhand High Court for exemption from personal appearance in the trial court, which was rejected by the High Court.
