Aurangabad, Oct 15: A devastating incident occurred on the outskirts of Aurangabad in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district on a Sunday, resulting in the loss of 12 lives and leaving 17 individuals wounded in a road accident.
On the Aurangabad-Nasik highway, close to the Vaijapur toll naka, at around 1:00 AM, a tempo collided with a truck, causing the accident.
The tempo was carrying pilgrims from Nashik to the Baba Teerth pilgrimage place in Aurangabad, according to the police. After the darshan, the tempo was returning to Nashik when the accident happened.
“17 people injured in this accident are undergoing treatment at the Valley Hospital in Aurangabad, the remaining 6 injured people have been sent to the rural hospital in Vaijapur for treatment and 12 people died in this accident,” said the police.
According to the police, the tempo driver suffered injuries in the accident. He informed police that the truck was approaching from the opposite direction and had a head-on collision with the tempo.
The injured were promptly taken to hospitals in both Aurangabad and Vaijapur. Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition. A case has been officially filed by the police, and additional investigations are currently in progress.
Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, conveyed his sorrow regarding the incident and declared ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for each of the deceased victims’ families. Additionally, he issued directives for an investigation into the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences for the loss of lives in the tragic accident.
He declared that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be provided to the families of the deceased, and Rs 50,000 would be offered to the injured.
PM Modi posted on X, “Pained by the loss of lives due to an accident in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. An ex-grata of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.”
