Dhanbad, Oct 18: The court of district and session judge Sushil Kumar Singh today awarded life imprisonment to two accused, Sanan Prasad Verma and Swarna Kamal Singh, in a two-year-old murder case of Jorapokhar resident Ranjit Singh.
Public Prosecutor Abdhesh Kumar said that besides life imprisonment, the court also slapped a penalty of Rs 22000 each, on both the accused.
However, three other accused in the case, Abhishek Singh, Aniket Kumar and Suraj Kumar Mali were absolved of the charges.
The court had held both the accused guilty in the case on Monday and announced the quantum of punishment today.
The case is two years old. As per the FIR filed on January 7, 2021, in Jorapokhar police station, Ranjit Singh alias Paggy was gunned down in the evening at around 8 pm on January 6, 2021, while he was going to Fushbangla market.
The killers came in three bikes and fled away after gunning down Ranjit Singh. He was admitted to Patliputra Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) where doctors declared him as brought dead.
The killers Sanan Verma and Swarnkamal Singh were duly arrested by the police in Jharia. Both were going on a bike brandishing guns. Their bike collided with a vehicle and they fell down.
A total of 11 witnesses were cross-examined during the trial.
