Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir – An Indian Army soldier was injured early Sunday morning when terrorists opened fire on a security post in the Rajouri district, according to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI).

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. in Galuthi village, located in the Manjaokte area, where terrorists targeted a sentry post of the Territorial Army. The soldiers on duty retaliated, leading to an exchange of fire that lasted for approximately half an hour. During this confrontation, one soldier sustained injuries. Despite the efforts of the troops, the terrorists managed to escape into a nearby forest. Search operations are currently ongoing to locate them.

This attack follows a deadly encounter in Kulgam district, South Kashmir, where two soldiers were killed, and four terrorists were neutralized in Frisal Chinnigam area.

Jammu and Kashmir has seen a rise in terrorist activities in recent months. In June, three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Doda district. These terrorists were linked to the killing of a special police officer in Doda on June 11. Earlier on June 9, a bus carrying pilgrims was attacked by terrorists in the Reasi district, resulting in nine fatalities and 33 injuries.

Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief RR Swain commented on the situation, stating that foreign mercenaries are being used to instill fear among the populace and sustain terrorism in the region. He reaffirmed the police’s commitment to working with all security agencies to eliminate the terrorist threat, noting, “They (foreign terrorists) are not in big numbers and we are fully determined to defeat them, like we have done in the past, with the help of other forces and cooperation of the public.”

In recognition of their bravery, seven special police officers were recently promoted to constable status following successful anti-terrorist operations in Gandoh. More officers are being deployed across villages to strengthen the anti-infiltration grid.
