Nagpur: In a tragic incident, a second-year MBBS student from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, located in Maharashtra’s Wardha district, died by suicide on Thursday. The student, reportedly in her early 20s, jumped from the dean’s office over issues related to her attendance, an official confirmed on Friday.

The student, who hailed from Nagpur, was attending Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, which is affiliated with the Datta Meghe Institute of Higher Education and Research. According to preliminary investigations, the young woman had been facing problems with her attendance, which had resulted in her being barred from taking certain examinations.

The official from Sawangi police station reported that the student jumped from the fourth-floor office of the college dean, leading to severe head injuries that resulted in her death. The police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations.

This incident underscores the immense pressure and challenges faced by medical students, particularly concerning academic requirements and attendance policies. The educational community is urged to provide better support systems to help students navigate these pressures and prevent such tragic outcomes.
