Patna: Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, launched a sharp attack on the Nitish Kumar government, accusing it of installing “smart cheaters” instead of smart meters in the state. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Tejashwi claimed that there are widespread issues with the smart meters, and electricity bills are skyrocketing due to faulty installations. He also announced that RJD would launch a protest starting October 1 against the rising electricity bills and alleged meter malfunctions.
Tejashwi’s post read, “In Bihar, smart cheaters have been installed instead of smart meters. RJD will begin its movement on October 1 against the increasing electricity bills and meter issues.”

BJP Hits Back
Reacting to Tejashwi’s accusations, BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok launched a scathing response, calling Tejashwi the “biggest cheater” himself. In an interview with IANS on Saturday, Ajay Alok remarked, “Tejashwi comes from a family of cheaters. His family has deceived the entire country.” Alok’s remarks were aimed at the ongoing cases against Tejashwi’s family related to corruption.
Court Summons for Tejashwi
Ajay Alok further advised Tejashwi to worry about the court summons he received from the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, rather than launching protests. “It would be better if Tejashwi attends to his legal matters in court instead of accusing others. He has received a court summons, and he should focus on that before planning any protests,” said Alok.
Tejashwi Yadav has been consistently raising concerns over the functioning of the Bihar government. In a recent social media post, he highlighted over 100 criminal incidents in Bihar and criticized the state government’s response to rising crime rates. Additionally, he raised the issue of a bridge collapse in Bhagalpur on Friday, further questioning the government’s infrastructure development.
JDU Denies Allegations
In response to Tejashwi’s ongoing allegations, the Janata Dal (United) spokesperson refuted the charges and called them baseless. The party questioned the authenticity of Tejashwi’s claims and demanded he reveal the sources of his information. “The criminal incidents that Tejashwi Yadav mentions in his posts are often exaggerated or unverified. In some cases, these events never even occurred,” said a JDU spokesperson.
Regarding the Bhagalpur bridge collapse, JDU claimed that the opposition is spreading lies and that the incident was only about road subsidence and not an actual bridge collapse. “The opposition is only interested in spreading false information,” the spokesperson added.
As the war of words continues, Bihar’s political landscape remains tense with both the RJD and the NDA trading accusations over the governance and administrative functioning of the state.
