New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma addressed the recent series defeat to New Zealand, urging a measured and calm approach rather than overreacting. India lost the second Test by 113 runs, marking their first home series defeat in 12 years. Despite the loss, Rohit highlighted the importance of having “quiet chats” with certain individuals to help them understand the team’s needs and move forward.

The Indian skipper emphasized that players must trust their plans and adapt accordingly, just as New Zealand’s batters had done. Rohit, along with senior players like Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, had a below-par performance throughout the series, which India lost 0-2.

Rohit emphasized maintaining a supportive team environment, especially with younger players. He said the upcoming five-match Test series in Australia requires players to be calm and to feel that they belong on the international stage. He also expressed that it’s vital not to create unnecessary pressure, which could lead players to doubt their abilities.

Reflecting on India’s performance, Rohit highlighted the team’s impressive home record, winning 42 out of 54 Test matches over the past 12 years. He stressed the importance of focusing on the positives rather than overemphasizing occasional setbacks.

In defense of bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, whose performances were questioned during the series, Rohit noted that it’s a collective team responsibility to win matches and not solely depend on individuals. He called for the entire batting and bowling units to step up and contribute to the team’s success.
