Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday laid the foundation stone of the Medha Milk Powder Plant under the Jharkhand Milk Federation in Ranchi. Addressing farmers from across the state, the CM called agriculture and animal husbandry the most profitable occupations, encouraging youth to adopt them with dignity and commitment.

“Farming and Animal Husbandry Always Give Returns”

The Chief Minister emphasized that unlike other sectors, agriculture and animal husbandry seldom incur losses. He urged young people to view farming not as labor, but as a respectable and viable business. Citing former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he said, “If an international cricketer can farm and export his produce globally, why can’t we?”

Highlighting Government Schemes for Farmers

Soren detailed several government initiatives aimed at boosting farmers’ income and making them self-reliant. These include procurement of paddy and milk and a livestock insurance scheme to protect farmers from losses due to disease or death of animals.

Aiming for Self-Reliance in Milk and Meat Production

The CM stated that within the next 5–7 years, Jharkhand aims to become self-sufficient in milk, fish, and poultry production. He urged farmers to move confidently in the direction of self-reliance.

Support at Every Level for Farmers

The Chief Minister reiterated that the government stands with farmers on every front, and is committed to increasing their earnings through various policies. One key measure is livestock insurance, ensuring that any loss due to the death of animals does not lead to economic hardship.

Milk Collection Network to Expand

Efforts are underway to expand milk collection infrastructure down to the block and panchayat levels, making it easier for farmers to sell their milk and earn better returns.

Crackdown on Adulterated Dairy Products

Expressing concern over the availability of fake khoya and paneer in the market, the CM said that quality production within the state can eliminate the need for residents to consume adulterated goods.

Government Procurement to Empower Farmers

The CM affirmed that the government is buying paddy, milk, and vegetables directly from farmers and is committed to taking every possible step to make them economically independent. He urged farmers to work hard and take full advantage of the state’s welfare schemes.
