Dhanbad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday launched fresh raids in connection with the ₹750 crore GST scam across multiple cities including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad. In Dhanbad’s Jharia area, ED officials searched the residence and furniture store—Jagdamba Furniture—of local businessman Amit Agarwal alias Chinu Agarwal, located at 4 Number Main Road.

Investigating Financial Irregularities and Shell Companies

The ED’s action is focused on probing financial discrepancies and suspicious transactions. Officials are collecting documents related to bank dealings, property records, and digital evidence to support the case. This follows earlier ED raids that uncovered shell companies used to issue fake invoices and illegally claim Input Tax Credit (ITC), thereby causing massive revenue losses to the government.

Previous Arrests and Expanded Investigation

In the initial phase, ED had arrested Shiv Kumar Dewra from Kolkata and Amit Agarwal alias Vicky Bhalotia from Jamshedpur, among others. These individuals are accused of orchestrating a network of bogus firms to fraudulently avail ITC benefits. Most of these shell companies have since had their GST registrations suspended or cancelled. Interrogations of those arrested revealed the involvement of more people, leading to this second round of targeted raids involving associates of the Dewra syndicate.
