Chinese Support to Pakistan Sparks Congress Attack on Modi Government

New Delhi: Congress launched a sharp attack on the Modi government following the arrival of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in India, reminding the Centre that China had recently aided Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Party MP Jairam Ramesh highlighted Beijing’s military support to Islamabad and raised concerns over India’s handling of China relations.

China’s Military Aid to Pakistan

Jairam Ramesh stated that just three months ago, China supplied Pakistan with J-10C fighter jets, PL-15 air-to-air missiles, drones, and other weaponry. He further cited Deputy Army Chief Lt. Gen. Rahul R. Singh’s claim that China provided Pakistan with live intelligence against India during Operation Sindoor. On July 4, the Indian Army confirmed that China was among the adversaries India faced in the operation.

Concerns Over Medog Dam and Security Implications

The Congress leader also raised alarm over China’s construction of a 60-gigawatt Medog Dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo river, warning of serious consequences for India’s water security.

Disengagement Agreement and Patrol Restrictions

Ramesh criticized the October 2024 disengagement agreement, under which Indian patrols in Depsang, Demchok, and Chushul now require Chinese consent. He pointed out that India accepted buffer zones at Galwan, Hot Springs, and Pangong Tso—areas claimed by India before Chinese aggression.

Attack on PM Modi’s 2020 Statement

The Congress MP also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s June 19, 2020 remark that “no one has intruded into our territory,” calling it a cowardly statement. He argued that this weakened India’s position and insulted the sacrifice of 20 Indian soldiers martyred in the Galwan clash.
