Ranchi: Senior IAS officer Vinay Chaubey, arrested in connection with the Jharkhand liquor scam, has been granted bail by the ACB Court after over three months in custody.
Strict Bail Conditions Imposed
The court allowed bail under Section 187(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), but imposed conditions. Chaubey cannot leave the state without informing the court, he must not change his mobile number during the trial, and he has to furnish two sureties of ₹25,000 each.
Chargesheet Delay Led to Bail
Despite 92 days since his arrest, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) failed to file a chargesheet. This delay became the key reason for bail. His lawyer, Advocate Devesh Azmani, argued for his release on this ground.
Background of the Case
On 20 May 2025, the ACB summoned Vinay Chaubey for questioning in connection with the liquor scam and later arrested him. Following this, the Jharkhand government suspended him from service. The case has created ripples in state politics and continues to attract public attention.
