New Delhi: Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda has strongly defended Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s recent Germany visit, dismissing BJP criticism over the timing and intent of his foreign engagements and asserting that Gandhi speaks the truth whether in India or abroad.

Pitroda Says Truth Remains the Same Everywhere

Speaking to India Today TV, Sam Pitroda said Rahul Gandhi regularly meets people abroad and raises important issues with honesty. He stressed that Gandhi’s statements overseas are no different from what he says within India, adding that truth does not change based on geography. According to Pitroda, questioning Gandhi for speaking abroad is baseless, as “truth is truth, whether spoken in India or outside.”

Remarks in Germany and BJP’s Allegations

Rahul Gandhi, during his Germany trip, visited BMW facilities and spoke about the need to strengthen India’s manufacturing sector, claiming that production levels were declining. In a Berlin address, he also alleged that the BJP was misusing agencies like the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI to target political opponents while shielding those aligned with the ruling party. The BJP accused Gandhi of weakening India’s image internationally, a charge Pitroda outright rejected.

Claims of Government Interference Abroad

Pitroda further alleged that the Indian government discourages foreign leaders and institutions from meeting Rahul Gandhi during his overseas visits. He claimed that during the Germany visit as well, embassies closely monitored Gandhi’s activities and conveyed the government’s reluctance for him to engage with influential figures.

Democracy and Institutional Capture Allegations

Addressing Gandhi’s comments on democratic decline, Pitroda said these concerns have been consistently raised by him within India as well. He reiterated the Congress leader’s stance that democratic institutions are being systematically captured and that democracy in India is under large-scale attack. Pitroda dismissed BJP leaders branding Gandhi as a propagandist, calling such remarks irrelevant and evasive.
