New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented India’s “MANAV” vision for Artificial Intelligence while addressing global leaders at the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, calling AI a historic transformation that will expand human capabilities at an unprecedented speed and scale.

What MANAV Stands For in India’s AI Framework

PM Modi explained that “MANAV” — the Hindi word for “human” — is also an acronym for five guiding principles of India’s AI approach. These include a Moral and Ethical system, Accountable governance, National sovereignty (especially the right to data), Accessible and inclusive technology, and Valid and legitimate systems.

AI Compared to the Wireless Communication Revolution

The Prime Minister described AI as a breakthrough comparable to the invention of wireless communication. He said that when signals were first transmitted wirelessly, nobody imagined the world would one day be connected in real time, and AI is similarly reshaping human history in ways that are only beginning to unfold.

‘AI Is Expanding Human Capabilities’

PM Modi stressed that AI is not just about making machines intelligent, but about multiplying human capability many times over. He said the key difference in this transformation is the unprecedented speed and the unexpected scale at which changes are happening.

Humans and AI Systems Will Co-Create, Co-Work and Co-Evolve

Highlighting the rapid evolution of technology, PM Modi said changes that earlier took decades are now happening far faster. He noted that the shift from machine learning to “learning machines” is deeper, wider, and quicker than ever before. He said the world is entering a new era where humans and intelligence systems will co-create, co-work, and co-evolve together.

World Leaders Arrive for AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam

PM Modi also welcomed global leaders attending the summit, including United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, who arrived at the Bharat Mandapam venue in New Delhi.

Summit Draws 500+ Global AI Leaders and Top Tech Executives

The five-day AI Impact Summit, being held from February 16 to February 20, has attracted more than 500 global AI leaders, 150 academics and researchers, and around 400 chief technology officers, vice-presidents, and philanthropists from across the world.
