Guwahati: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that their governance is driven by self-interest and fear tactics. Addressing a rally in Nazira, she urged voters to reject what she termed a “government of intimidation” and support a people-centric administration.
Allegations of Corruption and Fear-Based Governance
Priyanka Gandhi accused the Assam government of being deeply involved in corruption, claiming that the state is being run by “mafias and syndicates.” She alleged that even small businesses are forced to pay money to operate and that citizens are pressured to attend political rallies under threat of losing access to government schemes. She appealed to voters to rise above fear and vote for change, criticizing the BJP’s “double-engine government” slogan as ineffective.
Call for Political Change and Welfare Promises
The Congress leader called on the public to remove what she described as a “double subjugation government” and promised welfare measures if her party comes to power. These include financial assistance of ₹50,000 for women to start businesses and health insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakh. She also pledged justice in specific cases, including that of singer Zubeen Garg, within 100 days of forming the government.
