Kolkata: Post-poll violence has continued to shake parts of West Bengal, with a clash between rival TMC factions in Sandeshkhali injuring five security personnel, while separate incidents claimed the lives of a BJP worker and a TMC worker across the state.
Guns and Crude Bombs Used in Sandeshkhali
The Sandeshkhali incident in North 24 Parganas took place during a late-night patrol when two rival TMC groups clashed, allegedly using firearms and crude bombs. Security forces recovered weapons from the spot, and five personnel were injured in the violence.
BJP Worker Beaten to Death in New Town
A day earlier, BJP worker Madhu Mondal died after allegedly being beaten by TMC workers during a victory procession in New Town’s Bhalliguri area on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. The incident triggered retaliatory attacks by BJP supporters on TMC workers’ homes and led to a road blockade, with central forces deployed to restore order.
TMC Worker Hacked to Death in Birbhum
In a separate incident in Birbhum’s Nanoor area, TMC Anchal Committee member Abir Sheikh was hacked to death during an argument at Santoshpur village. Another person was also injured in the attack. Additional police forces were rushed to the area as tensions rose. TMC MLA-elect Bidhan Majhi alleged BJP workers were responsible, while BJP leader Shyamapada Mondal denied the charge and demanded a fair investigation.
