New Delhi: Two UAE oil tankers came under cruise missile attack in the Strait of Hormuz amid continued US strikes on Iran, killing one Indian crew member and injuring six others, with two Ukrainian nationals also reported injured in the assault.
Second Tanker Attack in Two Days Involving Indian Crew
This marks the second such incident in two days, after reports emerged of an earlier attack on a tanker carrying Indian sailors, following which one Indian sailor had gone missing while others jumped into the sea to save themselves and were later rescued. The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that two Iranian cruise missiles struck the oil tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah.
Tankers Set Ablaze in Omani Waters, Later Brought to Safety
The missile strike occurred on tankers positioned in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani maritime territory, setting both vessels ablaze. According to the Defence Ministry, the fire caused significant damage to the ships before it was eventually brought under control, with both tankers subsequently moved to a safe location. The UAE Defence Ministry described the attack as extremely serious, asserting that the country would not compromise on its security and reserved the full right to respond.
US Central Command Confirms Fresh Strikes on Iran
Regarding the latest American strikes on Iran, US Central Command said that on President Trump’s directive, several Iranian locations were targeted. Following the Central Command’s statement, Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Kish, Qeshm and Abu Musa Island. Notably, Trump had said in a radio interview prior to the strikes that the US would launch a forceful attack on Iran, also announcing that a naval blockade of ships moving to and from Iranian ports would come into effect from Tuesday evening, US time.
