Ranchi: Four senior officials holding top positions in Jharkhand have resigned over the past nine months, with two of the resignations directly linked to CID investigations into their respective institutions, while the reasons behind the other two remain shrouded in mystery.

Former DGP Anurag Gupta’s Resignation Remains Unexplained

The state’s then-DGP resigned from his post on November 4, 2025. The government had earlier framed new DGP appointment rules to enable Anurag Gupta’s appointment after his retirement, a move that triggered legal controversy and eventually reached the Supreme Court, which dismissed the matter, calling it a political issue. The legality of the rules framed by the state government remains under legal dispute. The central government had directed the state to remove Gupta from the DGP post, citing that he had not been granted a service extension after retirement, but the state government rejected this directive before later accepting his resignation, the actual reasons for which remain unclear amid ongoing speculation.

Former Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan Steps Down Abruptly

State Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan resigned from his post on the morning of June 14, 2026. Notably, the government had not issued any formal notification appointing him as Advocate General during its second term, yet he continued functioning in the role, representing the state government in courts and receiving government files for legal consultation. His sudden resignation came without any clear explanation, though he cited personal reasons for stepping down.

RIMS Director Dr. Rajkumar Resigns Following CID Probe

The third resignation came from Dr. Rajkumar, then director of RIMS, who stepped down following a CID investigation into the institute. He had been engaged in a prolonged dispute with the government, having previously been removed from his post before being reinstated following a court order. He resigned on June 25, 2026, after being questioned by the CID, which had visited RIMS to investigate irregularities in tenders and admissions secured through fake certificates.

JPSC Chairman L. Khyangte Resigns After Office Raid

The fourth resignation came from L. Khyangte, chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission, following a CID investigation into alleged irregularities in exams conducted by the commission and allegations that examination work had been handed over to a blacklisted company. The CID raided the commission’s office, detaining officials including Assistant Examination Controller Shweta Gupta late into the night and preventing them from leaving the premises. Khyangte’s resignation reached the Governor’s Secretariat today, July 22.
