Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court heard a case related to a committee dispute concerning Ranchi’s historic Jagannathpur Temple on Monday, during which the 11-member committee formed to study the temple’s operations and management scheme failed to submit its report to the court.

Committee Seeks Court’s Guidance on Its Structure and Scope

The committee has sought guidance from the High Court on what its structure should look like and what specific tasks it should undertake. During the hearing, the Jagannathpur Temple Trust Committee requested that the case be heard on merits, while petitioners also raised the issue of alleged encroachment on the temple’s land.

Court Seeks Clarity on Temple Land and Encroachment

Justice Ananda Sen of the High Court sought to know the total extent of the temple’s land holdings and whether any encroachment existed on it. The next hearing in the matter has been fixed for September 16. Advocate Bharat Kumar represented the Jharkhand Hindu Religious Trust Board in the proceedings.

Background: Court Had Earlier Formed 11-Member Panel

Notably, the court had constituted the 11-member committee, chaired by Advocate General Rohit Rai, during the previous hearing, tasking it with studying the proposed scheme and submitting a report to the court. In an earlier hearing, the court had directed the Jharkhand Hindu Religious Trust Board to present a scheme for the operation and management of Jagannathpur Temple under Section 32 of the Jharkhand Hindu Religious Trust Board Act, following which the board had submitted its proposed scheme.
