Ranchi: Three Principal District Judges (PDJs) — Manoj Prasad, Akhil Kumar and Ram Sharma — were sworn in as judges of the Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday, taking the court’s total judge strength to 16.
Chief Justice Administers Oath of Office and Secrecy
Chief Justice M.S. Sonak administered the oath of office and secrecy to the three judges at a ceremony held on the ground floor of the High Court, attended by all sitting judges of the court along with several other dignitaries. The warrants relating to their appointment were read out before the oath-taking began. Newly appointed judge Manoj Prasad took the oath first, followed by Akhil Kumar and then Ram Sharma.
Judges Elevated from District Court Postings
Prior to their elevation, Manoj Prasad was serving as PDJ in Garhwa, Akhil Kumar as PDJ in Sahebganj, and Ram Sharma as PDJ in Daltonganj.
New Judges Take Up Bench Duties Same Day
Following the swearing-in, the newly appointed judges began hearing listed cases the same day. Justice Manoj Kumar sat on a bench alongside Chief Justice M.S. Sonak, Justice Akhil Kumar sat with Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, and Justice Ram Sharma sat with Justice Rangon Mukhopadhyay to hear their respective listed matters.
