Lucknow: Amid ongoing protests against the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh on Friday accused the Congress and its allies of seeking a change of government on the lines of Bangladesh, alleging they are using the energy of young people to spread “anarchy.”
“Their Only Agenda Is to Destroy Democratic Institutions”
Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, Rajnath Singh said recent events in Delhi raise serious questions. He alleged that the Congress and its political allies, directly and through supporter organisations, are trying to turn young people into pawns of political confrontation instead of channelling their energy into nation-building. Using terms like regime change, he said, shows their fight is not about electoral reform, the SIR, Gyanesh Kumar or the youth’s future, but a plot to seize power by creating chaos. He said their only agenda is to demolish democratic institutions, and he also targeted Rahul Gandhi sharply.
Prashant Bhushan’s Remark Cited
On October 15, at a press conference with Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke, AISA’s Neha Bora and other student leaders, Supreme Court senior advocate and activist Prashant Bhushan had said, “Yes, we want regime change in the country, and there is nothing wrong with it.” He said the movement is currently fighting for proper elections, but if such brutality continues, a change of power will certainly happen.
SP and Congress Retaliate
SP MP Iqra Hasan said the BJP is the one looting and setting the country on fire, asking why the entire country’s youth is being troubled to protect one person, and urged the government to get Gyanesh Kumar to resign. Congress leader Imran Masood said he respects Rajnath Singh, but Rahul Gandhi’s evidence was presented publicly and cannot be denied, adding that the BJP-Election Commission nexus has been exposed and that the government will be cornered in the Supreme Court. UP Congress president Aradhana Misra Mona said such situations arise when people lose faith in a country’s system, and that the entire nation is now united to save democracy and the Constitution.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Jibe
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav mocked the press conference by linking it to Uttar Pradesh politics. On X, he wrote that the “Lucknow Express’s engine has failed,” and that Delhi’s engine has decided internally to hand Lucknow’s command to someone else. He called the press conference a show, with the real game being to prove the Lucknow engine a wreck and remove it permanently.
