Patna: Results for the eight graduates’ and teachers’ constituency seats in the Bihar Legislative Council elections are out, with the BJP winning three seats, the JDU, RJD and Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) one each, and two seats going to independents.

Seat-Wise Winners

The BJP won Darbhanga Graduates (Sarvesh Kumar), Tirhut Teachers (Dr. Narendra Singh) and Kosi Graduates (N.K. Yadav), who completed a hat-trick of wins. The JDU’s Neeraj Kumar won Patna Graduates, the RJD’s Dr. Sanjeev Kumar won Patna Teachers, and JSP’s Suresh Rai won Darbhanga Teachers. Independents Banshidhar Brishwasi (Tirhut Graduates) and Rahul Raj (Saran Teachers) also won.

Notable Upsets

In Patna Teachers, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar of the RJD defeated five-time BJP MLC Naval Kishore Yadav. In Darbhanga Teachers, JSP candidate Suresh Rai beat Congress leader and former Bihar Congress president Madan Mohan Jha.

Patna Graduates: Anant Singh Factor

The Patna Graduates seat was the most talked-about contest. JDU’s Neeraj Kumar defeated the RJD’s Dilip Rai. Mokama MLA Anant Singh had opposed Neeraj and campaigned strongly for JSP’s Dr. Anuj Singh, after which the JDU expelled him and his wife.

Rebel BJP Candidate Wins Saran Teachers

Rahul Raj, who rebelled against the BJP and contested as an independent, won the Saran Teachers seat by 1,815 votes. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary congratulated him on X, expressing confidence that he would work for teachers’ interests and the uplift of education.
