“As the car was intercepted, the driver attempted to flee but alert policemen did not allow him to do so. When interrogated he admitted the crime and recovery of marijuana took place from the middle seat of the car on this information. The drug was in several packets. While there were 36 packets each of one kg, there were three bags each of 11kg. One bag weighed 7kg,” SP Tabrez said in a press conference at his office.

The drug peddler arrested is 32 years old and a resident of Kholiyapali under Manomunda police station area of Boudh district in Odisha. Police are now collecting his criminal antecedents with the help of Odisha police.

Earlier on August 8, police in Ranchi had recovered 130kg of marijuana from a car on the way to Dhanbad from Ranchi. Recovery took place at Muta village under the Silli police station area. No one could be arrested that day as the driver escaped leaving the car beside the road after he realised that police were behind him.
