Lagatar24 Desk: In Kozikode district of Kerala, a 12-yr old death was reported by the infection of Nipah Virus. In the meanwhile authorities are looking forward to eradicate it in the initial stage. Here’s all we should know about the infection.
Nipah Virus infection is a zoonotic illness which causes severe diseases in both humans and animals. It was first identified in 1998. Death rate from this virus is near about 70%.
It is not an airborne infection and hence will be as dangerous as Covid-19. It can be transmitted from animals or contaminated foods and from close contact with infected person’s body fluids.
The symptoms shown by the infected person are: fever, respiratory systems including cough, sore throat, aches and fatigue.
There is no vaccine for Nipah virus, the only treatment is supportive care to the patient. To prevent it from spreading close contact should be avoided from the infected person.
