Jamshedpur, Sept 21 : Several make-shift shops, eateries and fruit vendors were removed during a massive eviction drive carried out on both sides of MGM Hospital Road in Sakchi on Tuesday afternoon.

The eviction drive was led by Dhalbhum SDO Sandeep Kumar Meena and officials of Jusco, a Tata Steel subsidiary which looks after the upkeep of steel city.

Police force and Jusco workers  were deployed to pull down the illegal structures during the drive which continued for over two hours.

Two earth movers were also pressed during the anti-encroachment operation.

Traffic movement was restricted on the MGM Hospital Road during the eviction drive. People were promoted to use the Jail Chowk Road which resulted in a snarl.

The SDO said the encroachments on the road were hindering traffic movement and was inviting mishaps.

” We will come up with a paid parking area after the area is made encroachments free, ” said a district administrative official who was supervising the eviction drive.
