New Delhi, Oct.4: All British citizens coming to India from the UK will be subjected to a required 10-day quarantine, starting today if they are completely vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), according to the Union government’s announcement on October 1.

An UK government official said, “The Indian authorities are in charge of establishing and implementing entry laws into India. We are in close contact with them and will update the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Travel Advice on GOV UK with the latest information on any changes to the laws.”

According to the latest FCDO advice, all travellers arriving in India, regardless of vaccination status, must have a Covid-19 RT-PCR test at the airport and on day eight following arrival at their own expense, as well as a 10-day required quarantine at home or at the destination location.

“All such passengers under isolation/quarantine shall be regularly monitored by State/District Health Authorities,” the advisory stated.

The move comes only days after the UK issued new travel rules that stipulate that even those who have received two doses of the Covishield vaccine will be considered unvaccinated if they go to the UK.

Despite the fact that AstraZeneca Covishield is among the vaccines that qualify for approval under the new British standards, India is not yet included in the list of 17 nations mentioned.

The UK government updated its official travel warning for British citizens visiting India on Saturday, saying it was in “close contact” with Indian officials.

The UK FCDO has issued an amended travel advice that includes an additional COVID-19 test on day eight and a 10-day mandatory quarantine for any visitors to India departing from the UK from Monday.
