New Delhi, Oct.20: Two unidentified terrorists were killed in an encounter with a joint team of police and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian region on Wednesday, according to the police. After obtaining intelligence concerning the existence of terrorists, security personnel conducted a search-and-cordon operation in the Dragad neighbourhood of Shopian earlier in the day.

The search operation evolved into a confrontation as terrorists opened fire on a joint team of police and security forces, who retaliated with gunfire, according to police officials reported by news agencies. The two terrorists were killed in the ensuing operation, according to officials.

However, the identities and group affiliations of the murdered terrorists have yet to be determined, according to police authorities, who added that an investigation is underway.

Last week after a similar confrontation in the Pampore area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, joint security forces captured top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Umar Mushtaq Khandey.

According to the police, 11 terrorists have been killed so far in the eight encounters undertaken by security personnel in the aftermath of the recent civilian killings in Jammu and Kashmir. A number of terrorists fled to south Kashmir after killing civilians.
