Agra, Oct. 25: Rakesh Tikait, the leader of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), paid a visit to the family of Arun Narwar, who was allegedly killed in police custody in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday and sought a compensation of  Rs 40 lakh and a government job for his relatives.

Tikait, speaking to media after meeting with Narwar’s family, said, “When it comes to compensation, the state government is discriminatory. In Lakhimpur Kheri and Kanpur, it has paid compensation of 40-45 lakh rupees, while in Agra, it has paid a compensation of ten lakh rupees.”

“The state government should give compensation of Rs.40 lakh to the family of Arun as well. They should not have discriminated,” he said.

He further urged that a member of Narwar’s family be given a government post and that a judicial investigation into his death be conducted.

Narwar was accused of stealing Rs. 25 lakh from the Jagdishpura police station and died in police custody on October 19 when his health deteriorated during questioning, according to officials.

RakeshTikait, criticising the BJP government’s agriculture regulations, said,”In the upcoming assembly election, I will advise farmers not to vote for the BJP. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha will run against the BJP.”

“We will not run candidates in the assembly election or support any political party,” he stressed.

“We are also willing to talk to the central government,” he said, adding that their agitation against the Centre’s three farm legislation will continue till the situation is settled.
