Daltonganj, Nov.2: Cutting across party affiliations, two major students’ organizations, ABVP and NSUI, along with others like APSU, YJKSF are on the boil against the Nilamber Pitamber University in Daltonganj.
Their wrath is directed against one of the resolutions taken in the 66th syndicate meeting held on Oct.30, 2021 which says that there will now be no agitation inside the campus. A separate and earmarked place outside the campus for staging protests and demonstrations will be available for the students.
It also mentions that the delegation of the protestors should not be above 5 in numbers when meeting the vice-chancellor in his official chamber. The resolution further reads that in the event of a breach of law and order, legal action will be initiated.
Students’ organisations are enraged as they find this resolution as repressive and suppressive intention and motive of the Nilamber Pitamber University against the students’ agitation.
They burnt the effigy of the university administration on Monday and threatened to further intensify their stir if the university does not roll back this anti students’ clause.
A national executive member of the ABVP, Vineet Pandey, while talking to Lagatar24. Com correspondent said, “The University has resolved not to allow demonstrations inside the campus but outside. Where should the students go? To the railway platform or bus stand?”
He further quipped, “The University has resolved to allow agitation only on a predetermined and earmarked place outside the campus. Should students sit on the road to voice against the misdoings of the university?”
What has come as fuel to fire is that the said resolution speaks of initiating legal action against the demonstrators in the event of a breach of law and order. Students’ organisations interpret this legal action as lodging of FIR mainly against the students.
A member of the syndicate, Chandrasekhar Dubey, had placed this proposal before the syndicate with no other intention except that the functioning of the university and its affiliated colleges should remain undisturbed by frequent agitations and demonstrations.
But this proposal boomeranged upon the university as neither the words of the proposal nor the timing of it was suitable when the university was set to close down from November 2 to 15 with a few working days in between.
The Proctor and official spokesperson of the Nilamber Pitamber University, Dr. K C Jha, on the other hand, said the students are ‘over interpreting’ this resolution. He said there is no repressive or suppressive quotient in it.
According to Dr. Jha, the issue has been overblown by the vested interests without knowing the facts. “Do students not know there is a hartali chowk in Patna? Places are marked for agitation etc more for the convenience of the people doing agitation,” he said.
He has appealed to the students to calm down as there is nothing such as ‘infringement’ of their democratic rights.
ABVP NEC member Pandey too was most apprehensive about the legal action by which he meant FIR, but when questioned if he knows that legal action includes preventive measures, restraining measures, enforcement of status quo and when things look set to go out of hands then coercive measure which is FIR and arresting. To this, Pandey said, “All we want and demand is this particular resolution is scrapped by the university without any more delay.”
The university is closed on/ from November 1 and after bouts of holidays it is to fully open after the state establishment day holiday which is November 15.
