New Delhi, Nov 23: Galwan valley clash’s hero Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, the commanding officer (CO) of 16th Bihar, has been awarded the second highest wartime gallantry medal- Mahavir Chakra (posthumously) on Tuesday by president Ram nath Kovind in an investiture ceremony.
Santosh Babu was awarded the medal for resisting the Chinese Army attack while establishing an observation post in the face of the enemy in the Galwan valley in the Ladakh sector during the ongoing Operation Snow Leopard.

Meanwhile, other Army personnel including Subedar Sanjiv Kumar of 4 Para Special Forces accorded the Kirti Chakra posthumously for an operation in Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir in which he killed one terrorist and injured two others. His wife receives the award from President Ram Nath Kovind.
Naib Subedar Nuduram Soren, Havildar K Palani, Naik Deepak Singh ,Sepoy Gurtej Singh, Sepoy Gurtej Singh were accorded the Vir Chakra posthumously for their gallant actions against the vicious attack by the Chinese Army in the Galwan valley in June last year as part of the Operation Snow Leopard.
President Ram Nath Kovind presented these medals to their wives.
