Mumbai, Dec.2: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed on Thursday that one of the samples sent for genome sequencing for the identification of the new Omicron form of coronavirus came back negative, providing much-needed reassurance to Mumbai residents.
To date, there hasn’t been a single Omicron instance in Mumbai. A few more samples have been sent to be sequenced in the genome. According to sources their results will be released soon.
The Maharashtra public health department had earlier on Tuesday announced that six travellers arriving from South Africa had tested positive with COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s State Disaster Management Authority published instructions on Tuesday night mandating a seven-day institutional quarantine for visitors arriving in the state from ‘at-risk’ nations. On the second, fourth, and seventh days after their arrival, such travellers will be subjected to a PCR test. If the passenger tests positive for COVID-19, he or she will be taken to a hospital. Even if the test is negative, the traveller will still be subjected to a seven-day quarantine at home.
The Union administration has released a list of ‘at-risk’ countries. The European Union, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Brazil, Botswana, China, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Israel are among the countries labelled as ‘at-risk,’ according to an updated list.
