Solapur, Dec 24: Four municipal corporation workers died while working on a drainage system in Akkalkot of Maharashtra’s Solapur district on Friday.

Two workers died on the spot on Thursday and other two had been taken to a hospital in serious condition where they died on Friday morning. According to the information received from Solapur Municipal Corporation, the work of connecting new and old drainage under the AMRUT scheme was going on when this accident happened.

Locals blamed Solapur Municipal Corporation for its negligence. According to the locals the municipality did not provide the safety gears necessary for workers engaged in drainage work. The locals had tried to save the deceased labourers but due to lack of safety gears two died on the spot.

Meanwhile, the social organizations have strongly condemned the fateful incident. They urged the administration to take strict action against the contractor involved in this work.
