Dhanbad, Jan 5: Six MBBS students of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. They have been admitted to the PG Block Covid care center of the institution for further treatment.

SNMMCH hostel superintendent Dr Anil Kumar said following the detection of the positive cases, entry and exit of students, mess staff and sanitation employees in hostels have been banned from today to check the infection.

“We had issued a letter for a test of all MBBS students living in hostels yesterday and today samples of six of them were found as positive. Now, the mess and hostel employees are being tested from the safety point of view,” said Dr Kumar.

He further said that there is no panic-like situation among the students as infected persons have been isolated from others. Since there is a chance of an increase in cases, positive students have been kept in PG Block Covid care centre of the college hospital.

Dhanbad’s District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has set up two Covid care treatment centres in SNMMCH Cath Lab and PG Block. In the Cath Lab, general Covid patients are being enrolled in the third wave of Corona.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, Dhanbad has recorded the highest 161 cases till Tuesday night.  Several senior officers of Divisional Railway, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and district administration have been found positive. A senior official of the district health department said that the officers of Divisional Railway and BCCL had complained about cough and cold complications.  When the RT-PCR test was conducted, they were found positive.
