Ranchi, Jan 8: The third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has turned grim in Jharkhand, with the state recording eight deaths and the highest 3,825 fresh infections on Friday. The number of active cases in the state is likely to cross 20,000-mark very soon.
Of the new cases, Ranchi reported the highest number of cases (1,543) followed by East Singhbhum (593), Bokaro (216) and West Singhbhum (175) districts.
With the addition of new cases, the active caseload in the state mounted to 17,214.
The state recorded 8 death cases due to the corona infection, taking the death toll to 5161 in the state. The districts including Ranchi (2), East Singhbhum (2), Saraikela (1) and Bokaro (3) recorded death cases in the last 24 hours according to the COVID-19 bulletin released by the state health department.
As many as 866 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours.
However, the 7 days growth rate still remained above the national growth rate, where the 7 days national growth rate is at 0.15% and the same for the state is 0.65%.
According to the health department officials, the rate of infection this time is much higher than the previous wave.
“On December 27, we got only 38 cases in the state which crossed 1,000-mark in a single day on January 1, 2022. Since then, we are reporting almost daily infection in four-digit mark,” an official said.
Of 2.41 crore eligible adult population for the vaccine, the state could only cover 48% of people with both the doses till January 5 whereas 78% had received their first doses.
